Alicia and Michael, her teenage son, live in a palafitic neighborhood in Tumaco, an area in the Colombian Pacific that concentrates all the beauty and also the terror of this country. She knows that the armed group, which controls her neighborhood, can recruit her son at any time. It is why she guards him, watches over him and protects him. But one day, Michael does not return from school and she begins a frantic search that will lead her to face her worst fears, finding the way out in the love and solidarity of her people.
Como todos los días, Alicia lleva a su hijo al colegio. Michael, un adolescente agobiado por la protección materna, sabe que no puede hacer mucho. Ella está empecinada en evitar que él termine reclutado por las bandas que siembran el terror en barrios de fronteras invisibles donde cada paso que se da, tiene que estar calculado. Ésta es la historia de Alicia, el día en que su hijo no regresa del colegio y de Michael, el día en que sus pasos mal calculados, los llevan a ambos al abismo. Puentes en el mar es la primera película de ficción dirigida por Patricia Ayala Ruiz.

Patricia Ayala Ruiz is the founder of Pathos Audiovisual, director and a producer. She has extensive experience in working in television production and has taught culture at several universities. In recent years she has been directing and producing documentaries for the cinema circuit. She is known for Un assunto de tierras (2015), Tacarcuna (2017), and Puentes sobre el mar (2023).
