DESCRIPTION:Areo Peña is the chief of the Wounaan tribe\, a peaceful community based in the Darien rainforest\, on the border between Panama and Colombia.\nThe tribe faces a pressing crisis: the jungle is under threat from illegal loggers\, drug traffickers\, cattle ranchers\, miners and a government that refuses to recognise the Wounaan’s territorial rights.\nWhen Areo discovers that\, due to the indiscriminate felling of trees\, the sacred kokorrdit bird is no longer to be seen in the area\, he decides to set out on a journey to find it\, in the hope of restoring the spiritual balance of the community. But Areo will not be travelling alone: he will be accompanied by Ayned\, a rebellious teenager who lives in the city\, cares only about her mobile phone and is estranged from the traditions of her people. DESCRIPTION:Memories of the Underdevelopment tells the story of Sergio\, an upper-class intellectual who – a year after the Castro-led revolution – decides not to leave the country\, even though his parents and estranged wife have escaped to Miami. Alienated from the major socio-political upheaval that is transforming the reality that surrounds him\, Sergio is a misfit\, caught between a past he half-heartedly attempts to maintain\, and the inevitable changes he cannot or will not embrace. His only income is the compensation he receives following the nationalization of his property. Unable to finish the novel he’s writing\, Sergio spends his time chasing women\, observing the outside world and reflecting on his own life\, trying to understand what is happening to his country and himself.
