The Cinematheque
- Wheelchair Access
- The theatre is wheelchair accessible and has four wheelchair spots with adjacent companion seats. If you have a mobility impairment and require assistance in attending a screening, we are happy to provide your companion with a complimentary ticket. You can notify us in advance via phone (604 688 8202) or email (info@thecinematheque.ca), or speak to someone at our box office when you arrive.

- Their universal washroom facilities are located on the ground floor, for use by people of all genders. The washrooms were renovated in 2023 and include private, single-stall toilets (no urinals). There is a button-operated motorized entry door, and two wheelchair accessible stalls.

- The accessible stalls doorway width is 35 inches.
- The sink countertop height is 35 inches.
- Soaps are scent free.

Cineworks
- Wheelchair Access
- Cineworks’ Black Box Studio is wheelchair accessible and located on the first floor. Entryways and common areas are navigable for mobility devices.
- Restrooms
- Cineworks offers an all-gender, wheelchair-accessible washroom on the first floor, near the Black Box Studio. This facility includes a single-stall layout designed for privacy and ease of access. A second, all-gender washroom is available on the upper level but is not wheelchair accessible.
- Seat Dimensions
- At this time, standard seat dimensions for Cineworks have not been provided. If you require specific seating accommodations, we encourage you to reach out in advance to ensure a comfortable visit.

SFU Woodwards
- Wheelchair Access
- The building is accessible at street level on Hastings Street or via one of the two ramps on the Cordova Street Courtyard side. One ramp is located near the entrance to the Woodward’s Westbank Atrium, which houses London Drugs and Nesters Market. The other is located beside the Cambie Street alley. Push buttons that open accessible doors are located at both the Hastings and Cordova entrances.
- Restrooms
- Public washrooms are available on the B2, 2, 3 and 4 levels. All public washrooms are equipped with wheelchair accessible stalls.
- Gender Neutral washrooms are available on the 3rd floor and on the B2 level.
- Guide and Assistance Animals
- Guide and medically required companion dogs are welcome in Goldcorp Centre For the Arts (GCA) and its venue’s. For audience safety and comfort, please let VLAFF Staff, a FOH team member or Guest Services know you are bringing a companion dog when you come to an event at GCA.
- Hearing Assist Headsets
- Hearing Assist Headsets are available for events that take place in the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema and in the Fei and Milton Wong Experimental Theatre. Let the GCAPES Head Front of House, Guest Services or one of the Ushers know that you would like to use one.
- Borrowing a Hearing Assist Headset is free of charge, but requires 1 piece of photo ID as collateral, which will be returned when the headset is returned to an usher or the Head Front of House.

- Entrance: Street-level entrance at the base of the Woodward’s building on West Hastings Street. The Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema is located on the second floor, accessible by elevator or stairs.
The Birdhouse
- Venue Wheelchair Access
- The Birdhouse is at ground level, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance/exit (double doors 70 in. wide, single door is 35).
- There are no stairs or steps to navigate the venue. The only area that is inaccessible is a raised area left of the stage.
- The door to the outdoor patio is 35 inches wide. There is a cord that is ½ in. off the ground running parallel before the door to the outdoor patio. About 5ft from the patio door the ground slopes approx. 20 degrees.
- Washrooms
- There is one wheelchair-accessible washroom and several single-stall washrooms ranging from 32-27 inches in width inside the venue. All washrooms are all genders.
- The wheelchair-accessible washroom’s measurements are as follows: door width of 35 inches, sink height is 33 inches, toilet paper is 32 inches from the toilet, paper towel height is 44 inches, and a railing on the right side of the toilet is 31 inches from the ground. The door opens inwards to the washroom, the dimensions of the washroom are 94 inches x 70 inches. Due to the warehouse flooring, there is a ramp with a slope about 2in in height and 30in length to access the washroom. Access is around a corner 56in wide and 42in deep.
- Seating
- For shows, there is reserved seating space for disabled folks at the front of the stage. Please make use of it as you need. We know not all disabilities are visible, this space is for you if you need it.
- There is a raised space (wheelchair inaccessible) left of the stage that we’ve converted into a sitting area with couches and stools.
- There are several couches and stools in the lower sensory lounge adjacent to the staged area.
- There are low, sturdy garden chairs with arms available on the patio outside as well as picnic benches with no backrest. Please feel free to ask security or door staff if you ever require alternative seating and would like staff assistance in finding a seat.
- Sensory information:
- Our VLAFF/VQFF show held at The Birdhouse is a party with bright, flashing lights and loud music, both live and recorded. We have earplugs available at the door.
- The Birdhouse has an indoor lower stimulation area/lounge inside the venue with couches, bar tables and coffee tables. It is slightly lower volume and has no moving lights inside. Please note the lounge is directly connected to the nightclub, so both light and noise stream in.
- Folks are welcome to bring their fidgets and other supplies that would help them enjoy the space.
- The patio outside has no flashing lights and no speakers, but you can hear noise from inside the venue.

Cineplex International Village: VQFF x VLAFF Screenings
- Wheelchair Access:
- The theatre the Festival uses (#10) is located on the 3rd floor and is fully wheelchair accessible, except for the balcony. Generous disabled access parking spots underground (you can enjoy 2 free hours of parking, with additional hours at $4/hr) allow for easy access to all amenities.
- There are numerous spots inside for folks using wheelchairs/ scooters to sit with friends. Access seating will be marked. Steps up are lit, low, and railed.
- Restrooms:
- The washrooms are currently marked as gendered, but will be sporting a variation on the “gender neutral” theme for the duration of the Festival. There are wheelchair accessible stalls in both. Please note that there are no tampon dispensers, sharps containers or scent free soaps provided (VQFF may provide scent free soaps, but that’s not confirmed yet), so please come prepared!

- The seats are modern, high back, ergonomic, 18” wide with movable armrests/ cup-holders.
