Batucada Abrace and Sara Magal Band

THUR, SEPT, 4th

Batucada Abrace is a collective of mostly queer, female, and Brazilian immigrant musicians who use their music to challenge oppression and build community. Their drumming ignites rejoice, healing, and resistance. Sara Magal is a Brazilian singer-songwriter whose voice feels like home: tender, deep, and full of soul. Together, they bring the joy of Brazil, rooted in culture, love, and the kind of music that holds you like a mother’s hug.

Blue Rivera

FRI, SEPT, 5th

Blue Rivera is an alternative rock band from Vancouver formed by three Mexican-Canadian brothers. With various musical backgrounds, they blend their sound with influences of garage, alt rock, and Latin-inspired harmonies and vocals to create a unique fusion of hard indie rock.
On this special occasion, we will be playing a mix of our own catalogue and undeniable classics, from Mexico, Cuba and Brazil, genres of the likes being Bolero, Son Cubano, Samba / MPB classics.

Los Loches

SAT, SEPT, 6th

Los Loches is a new musical project from long-time friends Trevor Stewart and Nadim Woolgar. Trevor is a local troubadour hailing from Burns Lake, BC, known for his soulful voice. Nadim, originally from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, blends rich Bolivian musical traditions with a dynamic, experimental edge. Together, they create a sound that’s intimate, unexpected, and years in the making.

Gaia Lacandona

SUN, SEPT, 7th

Gaia Lacandona (it/that) is a nonbinary Mestizx drag educator from Mexico and a UBC Public Scholar whose doctoral research supports educators recognizing the relationships between sexuality, gender, racialization, and settler colonialism. For the past fifteen years, they have worked in educational leadership and curriculum with a passion and commitment to decolonization, social justice and Indigenous resurgence. Gaia Lacandona is a drag mutant looking to end the monarchy of queens and kings and embrace a pod of monsters, creatures and things. Through the art of drag, Gaia cultivates a place where Two-Spirit, trans and queer youth can imagine otherwise.

Apreciación literaria

Apreciación literaria is a special literary appreciation event inviting audiences to gather, listen, and reflect on short stories by celebrated Latin American writers. Selected texts will resonate with themes from this year’s film program, offering new layers of meaning and connection. Join us for a relaxed and thoughtful session where cinema and literature meet over a shared love of storytelling.

¡Así Devoran! Drag Show

TUE, SEPT, 9th

¡Así Devoran! Drag Show with M.Y.A. Mya is a Brazilian drag queen who is taking over Vancouver’s drag scene with her emotional ballads and her Brazilian musicality. She has been a finalist in most multi week competition she has entered and she takes pride in representing the Latin excellence we have in this city.

¡Así Cantan!

WED, SEPT, 10th

¡Así Cantan! is our beloved karaoke night dedicated to Latin classics — from power ballads to perreo. Back for the second year in a row, this joyous session invites everyone to sing their heart out and celebrate the songs that live in our collective memory.

The Black Jesus

THUR, SEPT, 11th

Returning for the second year in a row all the way from Mexico! Mauricio Astorga, aka “The Black Jesus,” is a DJ and electronic music producer with over 15 years of experience curating sets in both digital and vinyl formats. He has played at clubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, and music and film festivals. Based in San José del Cabo, he currently focuses on spinning vinyl.

Wasakaka

FRI, SEPT, 12th

Formed in 2016, Wasakaka All-Stars, the dynamic Latin Music ensemble from Vancouver, is dedicated to showcasing authentic rhythms and upholding cultural heritage. Having enthralled audiences at premier festivals like Richmond World Fest and Carnaval del Sol, we’ve also twice shared stages with Salsa sensation Maelo Ruiz, most recently on June 2nd, 2023.

Diana Mulata

SAT, SEPT, 13th

Diana Mulata is a vinyl collector and selector from Cali, specializing in salsa, cumbia, and boogaloo. Her selections explore Afro-Caribbean heritage and Latin sounds across borders, creating dance floors that hold memory, joy, and resistance. Based in Canada, she brings the pulse of the South to every groove.

Collective SUR

Collective SUR is an ever-evolving and dynamic group that embraces the richness and diversity of Latin American musical traditions. Rooted in collaboration and cultural exchange, the collective is constantly reimagining itself through a rotating lineup of artists—each performance shaped by the unique voices and backgrounds of its current members.
No two performances are the same. With each iteration, Collective SUR brings a fresh perspective to Latin American music, blending traditional sounds with contemporary approaches and cross-cultural influences. Together, they create a vibrant, borderless musical experience—an ever-changing soundscape that celebrates the collective spirit of Latin America.”
