Óscar Restrepo, the poet of the title, has been incapable of measuring up to his promising first steps in literature, and gets by as he can while caring for his mother. Óscar finds a kindred spirit in his student Yurlady, a young woman whom he sees as a diamond in the rough of poetry.

SIMON MESA SOTO
Simón Mesa Soto (Medellín, 1986) studied Audiovisual Communication at the University of Antioquía and completed his Master’s degree in Film Directing at the London Film School. His graduation film, Leidi (2014), won the Palme d’Or for Best Short Film at the Festival de Cannes. His next short film, Madre (2016), once again competed at the Festival de Cannes and harvested several international awards. Amparo (Horizontes Latinos, 2021), his first feature film, competed in the Semaine de la Critique at Cannes, where its leading performer, Sandra Melissa Torres, received the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award. The second, Un poeta / A Poet, won the Jury Prize in Un Certain Regard at Cannes.
