“A poignant, compelling film that establishes Hermosillo as one of the most exciting new voices in contemporary Mexican cinema.”

In the late 1980s, a family of seven women in northern Mexico, spanning different generations and ideologies, fights to save their home, which they are on the verge of losing due to an outstanding debt. We experience this story through the eyes of the youngest, eight-year-old Roberta, as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery that impacts the rest of the family.

Premiering at the Venice Film Festival in 2025, VAINILLA has been collecting awards throughout the year, such as the audience award at the Morelia Film Festival, and currently has seven nominations for the Ariel Award from the Mexican Film Academy.
