Yes. Anyone attending must purchase a 2025 VLAFF Membership for $3.
You can buy it online, at the Membership Table, or at the theatre box office.
Why is a membership required?
Our films are not rated by Consumer Protection BC. According to BC law, only registered society members aged 18+ may attend (with exceptions for Rated for Youth screenings).

Passes will be available starting on Opening Night, and can be picked up 30 minutes before any screening at in-person venues throughout the festival.
Can I buy a ticket after the film has started?
Yes. The Box Office remains open for 30 minutes after each screening begins.

When should I arrive for a screening?

- 20 minutes before: Theatre opens; Passholders enter first
- ~10–15 minutes before: Ticket-holders enter
- After seating: Rush Line evaluated based on availability
I have a Festival Pass. What’s the procedure?
- Line up at the Passholder Line to have your pass scanned
- If watching two films back-to-back, exit and re-scan your pass
- At least 30% of seats are reserved for passholders, but space is first come, first served
We’ve never had to turn away passholders, but for popular screenings we recommend collecting a reservation slip up to 1 hour before the film starts.
Worried the screening might sell out?
Buy your ticket in advance and arrive 30–45 minutes early to secure your spot.
What’s the Rush Line?
For sold-out screenings, we maintain a Rush Line. We always hold a portion of seats for Passholders and Complimentary ticket-holders. If those seats are unclaimed shortly before showtime, we release them to Rush Line attendees. After all passholders and advance ticket-holders are seated, any remaining seats are offered for purchase to those waiting in the Rush Line.
