In 2016, when the Colombian government and the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) were coming close to signing a peace agreement to end 52 years of civil war, Germán Gutiérrez started filming in one of the last guerrilla camps in the mountains. Most of the ex-combatants he met were Afro-Colombians, Indigenous and poor campesinos, many of them women. He decided that it was with them that he would make this film, to tell their personal stories: some that the leaders of the FARC may not be happy to hear, and others that a large part of Colombian society may not be willing to accept. For six years, he was at the forefront of a crucial historical period which would end with the election of Gustavo Petro, a former M-19 guerrilla, as president of Colombia.
