Argentina, 1985 is inspired by the true story of Julio Strassera (masterfully portrayed by Ricardo Darín), Luis Moreno Ocampo, and their young legal team of unlikely heroes in a David-vs-Goliath battle to prosecute the leaders of Argentina’s bloodiest military dictatorship against all odds and in a race against time to bring justice to the victims of the Military Junta.
Winner of the 2023 Golden Globe for Best Picture – Non-English Language
Nominated for the 2023 Academy Award for Best International Feature Film
There’s a fair bit of Hollywoodised emotion in this true-life courtroom drama, but it is managed with terrific flair and heartfelt commitment, and Ricardo Darin gives a wonderful performance in the lead: witty, wry, careworn but idealistic... It’s a forthright, muscular and potent movie.
