Submission Guidelines
- Fiction, animated, and documentary shorts with Latin American content
- Maximum running time: 15 minutes
- Year: 2022-2023
- Earlybird Deadline: Wednesday, March 15, 2023
- Final Deadline: Sunday, April 30, 2023
Procedure
- Register and complete the online application via FILM FREEWAY.
- Submit an electronic link with English subtitles.
- Pay the $6 or $10 (USD) submission fee.

Selection Process
The Shorts Programming Committee will review all films and select fifteen films for competition. The selected short films will be announced on VLAFF’s website in mid-July 2023. Due to the volume of submissions that we receive, only the directors who are selected will be contacted.
Selected Short Films
Exhibition copies in DCP with English subtitles or downloadable link must be received by VLAFF by Wednesday, June 28. Filmmakers will be responsible for the cost of shipping materials to the festival. If requested, VLAFF will cover the cost of return shipping after the festival.
Jury
The Shorts in Competition Jury will be composed of film industry and media arts professionals.
Prize
The Jury will grant the prize for the Best Short Film, and a Special Jury Mention at its own discretion. The director of the winning short film will be awarded a $750 (CAD) cash prize.

El Vancouver Latin American Film Festival está recibiendo cortometrajes para la sección en competencia de cortometrajes. La edición número 21 del festival se llevará a cabo del 7-17 de septiembre del 2023.
Lineamientos de la convocatoria
- Se aceptan trabajos de ficción, animación o documental, que incluyan temática latinoamericana.
- Duración máxima: 15 minutos
- Año: 2022-2023
- Fecha límite de registro: El domingo, 30 de abril, 2023
Proceso de Selección
El comité de programación de cortometrajes revisará todos los trabajos que se hayan inscrito. Los trabajos seleccionados serán anunciados en el sitio web del festival a mediados de julio del 2023. Debido al número de trabajos que recibimos, solamente los directores seleccionados serán contactados.
Cortometrajes Seleccionados
La copia de exhibición en formato DCP deberá ser enviada a la oficina del festival antes del 28 de junio. Los directores cubrirán el costo del envío. El festival cubrirá el regreso de la copia.
Jurado
El jurado estará conformado por reconocidos expertos del cine y de las artes visuales.
Premio
El jurado otorgará el premio de mejor cortometraje. Bajo su discreción, podrán otorgar una mención especial. El premio al mejor cortometrajes son $750 CAD (dólares canadienses), los cuales serán entregados al director del cortometraje ganador.
