It is with great pleasure that for the Opening Film of the Festival we present one of the most highly acclaimed Mexican films of the last year. Directed by Julio Hernández Cordón, one of the maestros of contemporary Latin American cinema, the film has travelled the world screening in some of the most important film festivals, garnering awards and reaping astonishing reviews for a mise-en-scène as giddy and reckless, harsh and tender as only current-day Mexico could produce.

Young lovers Miguel and Johnny spend their time skateboarding through the streets of Mexico City, hanging out with their pals and making a bit of money in the underground blood-trafficking trade. When a major transaction doesn’t turn out as they’d expected, they find themselves in way over their heads.

“It’s a chilling reality check—yet, at its heart, Te prometo anarquía is a film about the friendship and love between young men, a sensual topic that Hernández Cordón explores with tenderness and sincerity.” Diana Sanchez, TIFF
