The Call for Submissions for the Short Film Competition of the 15th Vancouver Latin American Film Festival, August 24 – September 3, 2017 opens on February 15, 2017.

Submission Guidelines:
 SHORT FILM COMPETITION

• Fiction, animated and documentary shorts with Latin American content
• Maximum running time: 20 minutes
• Year: 2016-2017
• Earlybird Deadline: Wednesday, March 15, 2017
• Deadline: Monday, May 15, 2017

Procedure:


1. Complete the online submission form at FILM FREEWAY.
2. Submit an electronic link with English subtitles.
3. Pay the $5 or $8 (USD) submission fee.

Selection Process:

The Shorts Programming Committee will review all films and select fifteen films for competition. The selected short films will be announced on VLAFF’s website in mid July 2017. Due to the volume of submissions that we receive, only the directors who are selected will be contacted.

Selected Short Films:


Exhibition copies in Blu-ray with English subtitles must be sent to the VLAFF office by Friday, August 4, 2017. Filmmakers will be responsible for the cost of shipping. If requested, VLAFF will cover the cost of return shipping after the festival.

Jury:


The Jury will be composed of film industry and media arts professionals.

Prize:


The Jury will grant the prize for the Best Short Film, and a Special Jury Mention at its own discretion. The director of the winning short film will be awarded a $500 (CDN) cash prize.

El Vancouver Latin American Film Festival está recibiendo cortometrajes para la sección en competencia de cortometrajes. La edición número 15 del festival se llevará a cabo del 24 de agosto al 3 de septiembre del 2017.

Lineamientos de la convocatoria:


• Se aceptan trabajos de ficción, animación o documental, que incluyan temática latinoamericana.
• Duración máxima: 20 minutos
• Año: 2016-2017
• Fecha límite de registro: El lunes, 15 de mayo, 2017

Proceso de Selección:

El comité de programación de cortometrajes revisará todos los trabajos que se hayan inscrito. Los trabajos seleccionados serán anunciados en el sitio web del festival a mediados de julio del 2017. Debido al número de trabajos que recibimos, solamente los directores seleccionados serán contactados.

Cortometrajes Seleccionados:


La copia de exhibición en formato Blu-ray o DCP deberá ser enviada a la oficina del festival antes del 4 de agosto. Los directores cubrirán el costo del envío. El festival cubrirá el regreso de la copia.

Jurado:


El jurado estará conformado por reconocidos expertos del cine y de las artes visuales.

Premio:


El jurado otorgará el premio de mejor cortometraje. Bajo su discreción, podrán otorgar una mención especial. El premio al mejor cortometrajes son $500 CDN (Quinientos dólares canadienses), los cuales serán entregados al director del cortometraje ganador.
