New Directors 2022

The Call for Submissions for the 20th Vancouver Latin American Film Festival, August 25 – September 4, 2022, opens on February 15, 2022.

Submission Guidelines:
 NEW DIRECTORS COMPETITION

  • First or second feature-length films by Latin American directors 
  • Fiction, documentary, animation, experimental, hybrid
  • Running time: 60 minutes and longer
  • Year: 2021-2022
  • Earlybird Deadline: Tuesday, March 15, 2022
  • Final Deadline: Saturday, April 30, 2022

Procedure:


  1. Register and complete the online application via FILM FREEWAY.
  2. Submit an electronic link with English subtitles.
  3. Pay the $10/$15 (USD) submission fee.

Selection Process:

The Programming Committee will review all films and select the films for competition. The selected films will be announced on VLAFF’s website in mid-July 2022. Due to the volume of submissions that we receive, only the directors who are selected will be contacted.

Selected Films:


Exhibition copies in DCP with English subtitles must be sent to the VLAFF office by Friday, July 29, 2022. Filmmakers will be responsible for the cost of shipping. If requested, VLAFF will cover the cost of return shipping after the festival.

Jury:


The Jury will be composed of film industry and media arts professionals. They will select the winner of the Best New Director Award with a cash prize of $1000 (CAD).

Youth Jury:


The Youth Jury will select the Youth Choice Award for Best New Director. The Youth Jury will be composed of 15-25 youth (ages 18-30) from across the Lower Mainland and from film schools in Latin America.

El Vancouver Latin American Film Festival está recibiendo largometrajes para la sección en competencia Nuevos Directores. La edición número 20 del festival se llevará a cabo del 25 de agosto al 4 de septiembre del 2022.

Lineamientos de la convocatoria:


  • Se aceptan trabajos de ficción que incluyan temática latinoamericana.
  • Directores que hayan realizado un máximo de dos largometrajes de ficción.
  • Duración mínima: 60 minutos
  • Año: 2021-2022
  • Fecha límite de registro: El sábado, 30 de abril, 2022

Proceso de Selección:

El comité de programación de largometrajes revisará todos los trabajos que se hayan inscrito. Los trabajos seleccionados serán anunciados en el sitio web del festival a mediados de julio del 2022. Debido al número de trabajos que recibimos, solamente los directores seleccionados serán contactados.

Largometrajes Seleccionados:


La copia de exhibición en formato DCP deberá ser enviada a la oficina del festival antes del 29 de julio. Los directores cubrirán el costo del envío. El festival cubrirá el regreso de la copia.
