#VLAFF2019BEST SHORT FILM GUAXUMA
Dir: Nara Normande Brazil

Jury members: Barbara Chirinos, Antonella Sudassi, Carlos Colins.

Jury statement:
Guaxuma is filmmaker Nara Normande’s tender portrayal of birth, home, friendship and loss. This film’s strength lies in its soothing narrative, visual poetry and skillful technical execution. It is an intimate and innovative application of stop motion animation articulated through the use of shifting sands, cel animation, paper cranes, and still photography. Normande’s adept and fluid application of dancing sands is a glimmering metaphor, which captures the delicate balance inherent in the strength and vulnerability of human relationships.
