El Vancouver Latin American Film Festival anuncia su 2do edición de Cine en Construcción (Work in Progress), dirigido a directores productores y/o guionistas que se identifiquen como afro-descendientes  y/o indígenas, de la región latinoamericana y el caribe o a proyectos realizados por creadores latinoamericanos en colaboración con dichas comunidades, para largometrajes que estén en etapa de post-producción (en corte final avanzado), que se llevará a cabo de manera virtual, en diciembre del 2021.

La finalidad de esta convocatoria “Voces Afro Indígenas Voices” es dar a conocer a programadores de festivales, expositores de salas independientes, distribuidores, agentes de venta y canales de televisión de Canadá, lo que se está realizando en la región latinoamericana por creadores de comunidades Indígenas y Afro-descendientes, para así además crear un vínculo entre las audiencias canadienses y estas voces latinoamericanas. 

Requisitos: 

  1. La convocatoria se abre a partir de esta publicación y cierra el 15 de octubre de 2021.
  2. La postulación será completamente gratuita a través de FilmFreeway, empezando el 6 de septiembre. 
  3. Se considerarán largometrajes de ficción, animación o documental con películas que se encuentren en su fase final y tengan un corte de al menos 60 minutos de duración y con un corte final avanzado. 
  4. En caso de que el proyecto/película esté en un idioma distinto al español (Portugués, Aymara, Quechua, Guaraní, etc.), enviarlo con subtítulos en inglés.
  5. Se aceptarán dos tipos de películas:
      1. Proyectos de directores, productores y/o guionistas Indígenas y/o Afro-descendientes de la región latinoamericana y el caribe.
      2. Proyectos de directores, productores y/o guionistas latinoamericanos y del Caribe que se hayan realizado en colaboración con una comunidad Indígena y/o Afro-descendiente de dicha región (Latinoamérica y el Caribe). Todos los participantes que entren en esta categoría, deberán enviar un correo a valentina@vlaff.org con las especificaciones de dicha colaboración creativa.


    El año pasado, la película ganadora fue MI NO LUGAR,
    Dir. Isis Alejandra Ahumada Monroy (México), teniendo como jurados a Diana Sánchez Senior Director del Toronto International Film Festival, al director y productor de cine colombiano
    Jhonny Hendrix, y a la directora y productora
    Chilena-Canadiense Carmen Henríquez.

    Nota: Las películas que ya hayan sido estrenadas en salas o festivales no podrán aplicar para esta sección de “Cine en construcción”, ya que su película debe estar en etapa de post-producción y no finalizada.

The VLAFF would like to announce its second focus for “Cine en Construcción (Work in Progress)” to be for Afro-descendants and/or Indigenous directors, producers and/or screenwriters from the Latin American region and the Caribbean; and, to projects by Latinx creators in collaboration with said communitiesfor feature films that are in post-production stage (advanced final cut). “Cine en Construcción (Work in Progress)” will take place virtually in December, 2021.

The purpose of this call for “Voces Afro Indígenas Voices” is to showcase the work that is being produced in Latin America by creators of Indigenous and/or Afro-descendant communities to Festival Programmers, independent exhibitors, distributors, sales agents, and television networks across Canada. We want to build bridges between Canadian audiences and these Latin American voices. 

Guidelines: 

  1. The deadline for submissions is October 15, 2021.
  2. There are no application fees for this section; films will be submitted through FilmFreeway, beginning August 1.
  3. We will consider fiction, animation or documentary feature films by Indigenous and/or Afro-descendant Latin American directors with films that are in their final phase and have a cut of at least 60 minutes. 
  4. If the submitted project / film is produced in a language other than Spanish (Portuguese, Aymara, Quechua, Guaraní, etc.), it must be subtitled to English. 
  5. Two types of films will be accepted:
    1. Projects by Indigenous and/or Afro-descendant directors, producers and/or screenwriters from Latin America and the Caribbean.
    2. Projects by Latin American and Caribbean directors, producers and/or screenwriters that have been carried out in collaboration with an Indigenous and/or Afro-descendant community of said region (Latin America and the Caribbean). All participants who enter this category must send an email to valentina@vlaff.org with the specifications of said creative collaboration.

Note: films that have been released in theatres or festivals will not be able to apply for this section of “Work-in-progress”, since your film must be in post-production stage but not finalized.
